Lighthouse Links

Lighthouses, with their blend of beautiful images and fascinating stories, lend themselves naturally to websites. There are hundreds. This is a selected sample with a Canadian emphasis:

Nova Scotia Lighthouse Preservation Society
Factually very rich with lists and directions to almost every light in the province and illustrated profiles of the major sites.

Canadian Coast Guard Lighthouse Heritage
A whole history of Canadian lights, their technology and their architecture along with a top ten list and information about alternate use. Unfortunately it is in Java and won't display on many text browsers.

Lighthouse Homepage
A man in the Netherlands with links all over the world - very graphic heavy.

Lighthouse Links on the Web
A good collection of links with fewer graphics to clutter the screen, although somewhat American biased.

A Brief History of Canadian Lights
A nice little history of Canadian lighthouses with a good listing of links and printed sources, put together by a collector of lighthouse postcards.

British Columbia Lights
For a west coast perspective. Has a nifty clickabble map.

Seal Island Lighthouse Museum
A good example of a museum page integrated into the website of a tourism association.

Queens County Lighthouses
A nice blend of text and images to lighthouses in one county.

Lighthouse Getaways - Bill Britten
Well designed and lavishly illustrated personal account of visits to lighthouses, although quite American-centric.
