Chebucto Community Net Meeting April 10,1996 Present: Joan Macintosh, David Trueman, Joan Brown Hicks, Ben Armstrong, Rob Currie, Carol Compton-Smith, Bernie Hart Budget: David Towers will act as a financial advisor and Carol will be treasurer. Signing officers will have to ne changed. It was moved by David Trueman and seconded by Bernie Hart that the signing officers be changed to Joan Macintosh, Carol Compton-Smith, David Trueman and Joan Brown Hicks. Motion carried. The budget for this year included an increase for Blaine and a monthly contract for Gerard. We need the development money to continue funding the work that Gerard was doing. David has discussed this with Gerard. At this time, Gerard's contract is finished as of the end of April. It was moved by David Trueman and seconded by Ben Armstrong that Blaine's salary be increased by one dollar an hour and motion carried. Carol will be checking into the feasibility re on-line payment and discuss this with David Towers to see what he has already found out. She will also see into getting Blaine's pay deposited. Pre-authorized withdrawals information is available but is very complicated and requires extensive programming. Telecommunities Canada: Dal needs to be contacted to confirm dates for the 1997 conference. Nothing has been confirmed as yet. Bernie is getting a committee together. Logan Duffield was suggested as well as Dan McKeen. Our participation to the 1996 conference needs to be settled. David is giving 2 talks and the conference is covering his costs. Discussion took place re a booth and the involvement of NSFCN. Bernie will bring this up at the next NSFCN meeting. NSFCN: We need to confirm our involvement. We can have 2 voting members and another non-voting member. Bernie is on the executive and David is being asked for advice and support quite a bit. Ben is willing to be a third. Carol moved and Rob seconded that Bernie and David be the voting members and that Ben be the non-voting member. Motion carried. Industry Canada Summer Project: David was involved in a conference call re Industry Canada funding a summer project for students to help out CAP and potential CAP communities trained. This would be a project from Michael Gurstein at UCCB, endorsed by the CAP community and NSFCN. Bernie is discussing this with NSFCN. New IP agreement: There has been discussion on line re IP's supporting CCN to the tune of $200. It was agreed that this could be a problem for many groups. It was agreed that Ips be asked to promote CCN, that the agreement include the name and address of the signing officer so that they can be contacted, that an on-line discussion take place with Ips re ways to support CCN, as well as a smaller face-to-face meeting with a broad selection of Ips to get input re ways to support CCN as well as ways they can be supported. Promoting their organization on the World Wide Web could be a workshop put on for Ips. Rob offered to bring in his scanner so they could scan in their logos and images. This could also be a fee-paying workshop as a fund raiser. Carol offered the community college as a location. A workshop could be developed and repeated for users. This will be discussed on line. Dal-TUNS merger: Computing Science will be on the TUNs campus (Maritime Mall) Plans are for the merger to take place in March 97. The future is uncertain re the location of hardware for CCN. There will also be changes re ISIS and UUNET that will be affecting us in the future. Review of the old to-do list: Items not completed have been added to the new items from this meeting. Chebucto Party ( Extravaganza) Joan BH will send in press releases and psa's . We will offer free tickets to give away on air. If we don't have someone win the modem for selling 25 tickets , then we will raffle it off at the dance. Other items: David ok'd CCN's name to the Provincial Library's promotion of Information Right's Week. JoanBH has booked Heather Menzies for a talk sponsored by CCN in late May Policy issues are coming up on a daily basis and need attention. The Policy Information Committee needs rejuvenation now. Joan M will speak with Peter. Carol will ask Lesley Foster and John Van Gurp to see if they will join the committee. Next Meeting: Tuesday April 23rd 7 pm at the Alderney Gate Library in Dartmouth.
