Chebucto Community Net Board of Directors Meeting January 26, 1999 Present: Marni Tuttle, Richard Rudnicki, Doug Rigby, Sharon Parker, David Murdoch, Sue Newhook, Andrew Wright, Peter Morgan (chair), Michael Colborne, Bernie Hart. 1. Bernie reported on the latest Volnet developments. At this point there is no word on when plans may receive final approval. CCN is working on a province-wide proposal with the Federation of Community Nets, Metro United Way, and NovaKnowledge. 2. Sue presented the idea of an online survey. The objective would be to find out who CCN members are, in order to market and target our service. Is online the best method? For example, will older people fill out an online survey? Various methods of selecting respondents were discussed. Public relations students from Mount St. Vincent may be able to work on the survey. Sue will circulate the survey to the Board for comments, and proceed with the project. 3. The Nova Scotia Dept. of Economic Development currently has grant opportunities available. 4. Motion: That $1500 be approved from the Operations budget to contract Richard Rudnicki for management services, reporting back to the Board in three weeks. Moved: Doug Rigby; seconded: Michael Colborne. Carried. 5. David Murdoch presented a report on PPP developments. 6. Doug presented the 1999 budget, including the budget allocations agreed to at the December meeting. 7. Marni presented some plans for fundraising. 8. Michael outlined the Nominating Committee's plans for preparing a full slate of proposed Board members for the AGM. 9. Richard presented some proposal for various projects: a) Membership sales: To increase and retain paying members by marketing through electronic and mass media, and through the activities of an active and focused volunteer membership group. Budget: 3 days per month, $550 per month for four months for a total of $2200. Marni and Richard would work on this project. b) Health Project: Health Canada has a $2000 grant available from its Community Animation program, to "build capacity of community groups to make the links between, and take action on, issues involving health and environment". Richard, Bernie, Chris Majka, and Peter Morgan would work on this project. c) Volunteer and Membership Bulletins: $150 per month for one volunteer bulletin and one membership bulletin each month for six months. d)MT&T follow-up: $500. Richard would work with Bernie, Peter Morgan, and Sue on this. e)IP Marketing: Some areas that could use some attention are the IP Committee, IP marketing of goods and services including VDNs, new IPs and IP retention, small business VDN sales, sponsorships, etc. 4 days per month, $750 per month, $3000 for four months. Richard would work with Peter Mortimer or Jack Uthe on this. Motion: That the Board approve: a) for two months, with the money to come from the Membership Committee budget; b) as presented; d) as presented, with the money to come from the Operations budget; e) for two months, with the money to come from the IP Committee budget; and that c) be referred to the Volunteer and Membership Committees.
