  About the Presenters:  
  In July 1995 Gordon MacDonald became the Executive Director of the GCRDA. As a result of increased level of activity associated with the advent of the Sable project, Gordon MacDonald has taken a leave of absence as Executive Director to take on Special Projects Manager of the GCRDA Petroleum Office established in January 1998. Gordon has been instrumental in defining a critical path for development for Guysborough County in the emerging energy sector.

 

 
  Sean Maloney joined the GCRDA in January 1997 after working with in the NWT Dept. of Economic Development &Tourism. His initial assignment with the GCRDA was to assist with the development of an investment strategy for Guysborough County. Now responsible for Investment and Trade, his efforts are directed towards foreign direct investment, transportation infrastructure development, partnering, marketing and strategic planning activities specifically related to the hydrocarbon industry.  
       
       
  About the Topic:  
  Guysborough County has undergone significant and dynamic changes to its communities in the past 18 months. The county has moved from an era of pervasive poverty, chronic unemployment, general
distress and pessimism to a hive of activity, creating a new industrial mode now considered by government and industry as the new "Energy Gateway to North America". The focus of the presentation will detail the strategic advantages found in Guysborough County and its role in the offshore oil and gas sector and imminent developments and growth opportunities related to Sable Gas.
