RICHARD RUDNICKI ELM STREET STUDIO |
I am an artist and an award winning children's picture book illustrator. My acrylic landscapes, both en plein air and in the studio, occupy a great deal of my time. I am proud of my commissions, especially when dealing with historical material, picture book illustration and portraiture. My work progresses in nude and portrait painting, and I continue to draw and do my daily memory sketch project. Gracie, the Public Gardens Duck (Nimbus), a number one best selling children's picture book in Nova Scotia, was awarded the Lillian Sheppard Award for Excellence in Illustration, and was runner up for the Atlantic Book Publishers Award. I illustrated I Spy a Bunny (Nimbus) and have illustrated Viola Desmond Won't be Budged (Groundwood, publication pending). I received a grant from The Helen Creighton Folklore Society to research a children's story which I am writing and illustrating. I enjoy giving private classes and workshops in painting and drawing, and working with children and youth. I live and work with my artist wife, Susan Tooke, at Elm Street Studio in Halifax, Nova Scotia. February, 2010 |
