HIGHLAND SQUARES
Easy Mainstream, Mainstream, & Plus - Thursdays 8:00-10:30 pm, NS Community College, 39 Acadia Ave., Stellarton
Caller: Ralph & Barb MacDonald

Highland Squares was formed in 1990, when the "Trenton Twirlers" and the Stellarton "Triple M's" joined their clubs and danced together Thursday evenings under their new name in Stellarton at the Community College with caller Herb Muir.
For several years they hosted a "Dance for Heart" and a dance for the N.S. Arthritis Society. These dances were part "square" and part "old time country" with caller Jack MacArthur and various country bands.
The Highland Squares were enthusiastic helpers with the 1994 National Convention in Halifax and helped host the 1993 Federation Festival that was held at St. FX University in Antigonish.
The Highland Squares dance at local nursing homes and festivals, they hold special Halloween, Christmas, and St. Patrick's Day dances each year. In Summer the club has a Lobster supper, a BBQ's, and a pot luck supper. They celebrated 30 years of Square & Round dancing in Pictou County in 1998 when 200 dancing friends visited to help mark this anniversary.
Herb Muir retired from calling in 1997. The Club caller now is Jack MacArthur. On Jack's winter trips to Florida, Murray Workman of Antigonish and Ralph MacDonald of Goshen, fill in as able callers for the club.

In 2002 Jack & Dolores decided to retire from active calling . Our club was fortunate to secure the talents of Ed & Kitty Giles, callers with the Cobequid Twirlers. They are a well seasoned and talented caller and cuer from Ontario who now reside in "Canada's Ocean Playground." With many of our members becoming "snowbirds' each autumn, our club now dances from September until mid-December and again from April until late May. We continue to celebrate Halloween, Christmas, etc., with special dances. Have even been known to celebrate 'Christmas in April' which may become an annual event. We also continue to have a summer BBQ so our members connect over the summer hiatus.
