TOWN & COUNTRY DANCERS
Basic & Mainstream & Rounds - Wednesdays 8:00-10:00 pm (Class 7:00-8:30 pm), Christ Church Hall, Trinity Ave., Sydney
Caller: Tom Gardiner; Cuer: Wendell Carrol
The Town & Country Square Dance Club began with a small number of dancers in
February 1982 under the direction of Caller Ada Keough. The Club grew over the
ensuing months and graduated its first class in May 1983.
Since that time the Club has seen many couples learn Modern Square Dancing at the
Basic and Mainstream levels. Dances were held at Sydney River United Church Hall
until recent years. After several short term relocations, the Club settled at Christ Church
Hall in Sydney. The Hall is located on Trinity Avenue off George Street (across from
Wentworth Park). In May 2000 Ada Keough retired.
The new Caller Couple is Tom and Gwen Gardner.
Tom has taken over calling for the Town & Country Dancers in addition to the Highland
Capers in Sydney Mines. He is calling at the Basic, Mainstream and Plus levels.
There are currently 24 couples dancing with the Club who meet every Wednesday
evening. A warm welcome is extended to all new dancers and visitors.
This history was provided by long-time dancer Shannon Parsons.
