Hello,
Karine Gautreau and I observed a pair of vireos this evening on the
abandoned railway trail in Mahone Bay. They certainly fit the description of
Philadelphia vireos: Yellow breast and underparts, lacking a black streak
over the white eyebrow and no red eye. I'm a little concerned that they may
have been immature red-eyed vireos since a few field guides suggest that
they have yellow breasts and brown eyes during fall migration. I would like
to hear from anyone more familiar with immature red-eyes. do they have
enough yellow on the breast to be easily confused?
Jesse McLean
