Hi Jim,

We have such a feeder, which when filled with black oil sunflower seeds
attracts Chickadees, Purple Finch, Bluejays, Wh.-br. Nuthatches, even
Goldfinch. Ours was made (not by us) out of a whole coconut with 3
large holes (2-3"diameter) cut out of the outer husk around the
perimeter, meat removed, a carved wooden stick inserted in the top from
the inside & hung from a hook. It has lasted a surprising number of
years. We have hung it in a Dogwood bush quite low, and the birds love it.

If you meant leaving the coconut meat inside, it would attract
Chickadees, Nuthatches, perhaps Woodpeckers, depending on where it was hung.
