Looks like a beautiful Russula, Peter. ( My mushroom books are in Cumb. 
Co. so can't give the sp.)  I do not know of any members of this family 
that are edible. My grandmother said tiny bits could be used as  an 
emetic. I recall it being VERY bitter.  Cheers, Joan .
