I would not expect anyone to confuse a Kestrel at close range with any =
other bird. I saw one last year at Baccaro Point. There was some kind of =
small dead fish washing up on shore, with a large flock of gulls feeding =
on them. Off to one side was a Kestrel hovering, looking for food. When =
it tired it flew in and landed on the wires above my head - perfect =
range for my binoculars - it was completely different from the Merlin =
and any other hawk.
Roland.

Firstly, sorry for the second message, I didn't think my earlier one =
had gone through.
=20
As for the Kestrel, it was seen by two people and it sat on the lawn =
within 20 feet of the house as well as coming within about 5 feet the =
first time as he almost ran into the window as he left with the Junco. =
It may very well have been hungry as the first time he came it was after =
the last snow storm and then again three days later.

Happy Birding
Dorothy
