I'm in Hantsport.
My wife hatched and released a batch of painted ladies last spring as a project with here grade 5 class - a great success with the kids as a learning experience. So we're wondering if it's advisable to repeat the experiment here and if so what type of equipment, conditions, and process would be required?

Jamie - if brought indoors and exposed to ambient temp and daylight will probably hatch between 18-23 days. If left outdoors under normal conditions will most likely hatch sometime in june. Peak flight time in NS is mid June with ranges from june 4 - july 11 in NS for H. cecropia. Cecropia has a broad distribution in NS and eclosure times vary from diff parts of province ie valley to CB. . Where are you located ??
Hope this helps a little ,
Derek B

Given the size and orientation on the twig, I suspect it's from a Cecropia Moth, one of our large, beautiful silkworms.
