Hi all,
I had a chance to briefly visit Little Albro Lake in Dartmouth after
work today and check out the Yellow Floating Heart population there. The
lake is almost completely surrounded by private homes :((( and a little
hard to find. But there is a public access point off Limardo Drive (and
probably another one off Albro Lake Road).
I didn't need my canoe to look for the invader. The shallow
periphery of the little lake is simply teeming with it; the lake is
ringed with yellow. The flowers are quite attractive. I cannot see how
The Dail. News photographer missed it...
The new species cannot really spread downstream from Little Albro
Lake as the stream is flowing in a culvert all the way to the ocean at
The Narrows. We will see how soon the plant spreads upstream into the
much larger Albro Lake and still further into Martin Lake.
