Subject: [NatureNS] Dragonflies & Damselflies photos
All are invited to view about 20 photos of dragonflies and damselflies =
I've taken over the past few months in various locations -- Halifax, =
Cape Breton, Fredericton, and Nebraska. The gallery is only in its =
infancy. Using A Field Guide to Dragonflies and Damselflies of =
Massachusetts (new edition just published this year) -- a book once =
recommended on this listserv -- I've tried to identify the species, and =
am quite sure of the identity of a few, including Chalk-fronted =
Corporal, Twelve-spotted Skimmer, and Common Whitetail. In other cases, =
the family of species seems clear -- Meadowhawk, Darner, Bluet -- but =
the specific species I'm having difficulty figuring out. Help from those =
with expertise in odonates would be appreciated.
Is there another book I should use as a supplement to the =
Massachusetts one?
Even those with little interest in these insects might like to =
take a gander at photos of a kind of red Meadowhawk caught in their =
"mating wheel" position in Pt. Pleasant Park.
cheers, Brian
