February 25, 2008 Birds worth mentioning=20

Hartlen Point

Rough Legged hawk - Light morph - Devil's Island
Didn't see any pipits

Smelly's Cove

1 Black backed woodpecker - female=20
15 Pine siskins
Boreal chickadee
Black capped chickadee
1 Hairy woodpecker
1 Downy woodpecker
2 Ruffed Grouse - pair
1 Red Breasted Nuthatch
5 Juncos
2 Blue jays
1 possible golden crowned kinglet

On Shore Road, I flushed two Ruffed grouses out from beneath some spruce =
trees, but their fan-tails helped me identify them correctly. Small =
birds were darting back and forth, but one cooperative black capped =
chickadee kept popping out to check me out. A boreal chickadee finally =
came out on the top of a tall spruce tree allowing me to see it =
properly. The biggest surprise was a black backed woodpecker that =
showed up and hammered away on a dead spruce tree. The next thing a =
hairy woodpecker appeared but on another tree. The credit should go to =
Suzanne Borowski who heard a woodpecker, which did not sound like a =
Hairy or Downy woodpecker. She suspected it was a Black backed =
woodpecker, but never got to see it.=20

West Chezzectook Marsh
Grand Desert Marsh
Fishermen's Reserve

700 + Canada Geese feeding on the marsh
