One other consideration is that this pup was found in the beginning of =
April. For a harbour seal that would be incredibly early for a pup with =
most females not pupping until mid to late May and early June. Any =
photos of the face head-on?

Somewhat difficult from this photo. But I'd bet from the colouration =
and
size of the hind flippers that it is a young grey seal.
Nostrils and teeth are more diagnostic. However if the attentive =
female
was a harbour seal then it may well be a harbour seal pup.
Difficult one.

Hi Randy.
Well it's not a Harp , Hooded, Ribbon, Ringed, or Grey Seal pup
because of the extensive spotting and it's size. Ranges make it =
highly
unlikely to be some of the other smaller northern seals.
It's the right size and has the same motteled look of the young
Harbour Seals. So my bet is that your Corect and it is a Harbour =
Seal.
Please let us all know when you get a chance to study the skull!

All,
I'm assuming this pup is a Harbour Seal...it was found
dead on the shore in Antigonish Harbour. Can anyone confirm?

There were no apparent injuries to it, an attentive
adult was just off shore when it was found by a friend of mine.
