Went for a walk through my yard/woodlot this morning
and did quite well despite the cool breeze. While the
birds were a bit quieter, the blackflies were fewer.
I turned up a total of 43 bird species. All the usual
suspects were present at the feeders, along with a
pair of Evening Grosbeaks. In the trees, a Red-eyed
Vireo was new for the year, as was a Swainson's
Thrush. There was a fair number of warblers,
particulary Magnolia - there were easily two dozen of
them. Though I'm not atlassing the area, I did catch a
pair of Magnolias "in the act". Other warblers
included Nashville, Canada, Chestnut-sided,
Blackburnian and Common Yellowthroat. The highlight of
the morning was a yard first - a Blackpoll Warbler.
