Dear All, July 19, 2008
For many years I have kept small bunches of Gnapweed unmowed because
they feed flower-visiting insects and there are usually a few plants of
Burdock that don't get mowed until late. Both plants have always been
free of more than incidental insect feeding.
Recently I noticed that most patches of Gnapweed and both Burdock
plants have been heavily chewed, often down to the midrib and major
veins. The insect has either moved on or is a night feeder because none
are on the plants. I noticed numerous small brownish daytime moths
around the yard weeks ago & wonder if there is a connection.
