Dear All, Sept 9, 2008
Based on behavior of one Yellowjacket today, I would use Irish Stout
if I wished to trap Yellowjackets using fermented material of some kind.
After having brought in a load of wood in rush mode, I took a few
minutes to refresh with a float made of Irish Stout (made from kit) and
ice cream, before unloading the wood and saved about 1/3 of a bottle for
later.
While I was unloading the wood, a Yellowjacket became a pest by
flying many times into my face so I gave up and, for the first time this
summer, used Deep Woods which as usual was effective.
But when I took a swig of stout later, it was lumpy, alive and
although I spit it out as quickly as I could, I got a good sting on my
lower lip.
On the subject of Yellowjackets I was amused some days ago by one
that flew toward me, in a easy going way, and landed on my hand just
after I had eaten an apple. It dabbed away for some minutes at traces
of apple juice (only ends of thumb and some fingers so it was not sweat)
before moving on.
