I once again walked Martinique Beach in search of new migrants yesterday
afternoon and came up with a bunch of birds but still no Piping Plovers.
There was a Pileated Woodpecker I could hear calling from the other end of
the mud flats and at the same time two Great Blue Herons flew over. There
was also a Double-crested Cormorant sitting on a rock where the stream gets
narrow. I found a total of 13 Ipswich sparrows, ten of them feeding together
at the end of the sand beach where the poll is stuck in the rocks. I also
heard an Ipswich Sparrow sing, something I've never heard before. I searched
Flying Point for the Wheatear along the rocky coast and the perimeter of the
trees, but I only came up with several dozen Black Scoters (year bird) and
song sparrows.
I should note that when I went to Martinique on the day of the field trip
(Sat) I found a total of five Ipswich sparrows.
