I find it interesting that in the comments about bats unusual =
behavior no one has mentioned the word "rabies". A bat was found with =
rabies here in Shelburne County not too many years ago , and I suppose =
that everyone knows why bats that show unusual behavior should be =
avoided and if possible, tested. Rabies is not something to take =
lightly. Must we wait until someone catches rabies before we take ir =
seriously?

Hi Jim,
Seems early for activity and unusual and I don=92t really know how =
to explain it. Regardless if the animal does die and is found I believe =
that the animal should be submitted to my colleague at the vet college =
at PEI (Dr. Scott McBurney). Scott, I know, would certainly have an =
interest in taking a look and I am sure we would be all interested to =
hear what, if anything he finds usual. As per one of the respondents =
emails, it is correct that the animals should NOT be handled bare handed =
in the event that it is an ill animal.=20
Let myself and/or Scott know and we will make arrangements and =
provide instructions for shipment to PEI.

HI there, this sounds like pretty unusual behaviour for a bat, =
especially in the daytime. She might want to contact dept of natural =
resources and if it does die, consider having the body submitted for =
post mortem. They will likely collect it for her since its a bat but if =
it does die, gloves should ALWAYS be worn when touching a bat

Hi,
A friend sent me this message this evening. She lives in Scotts =
Bay. Can anyone shed any light on this?
Thanks,
Richard
"Hi Richard. ............... What do you know about bats? I have =
one that dive bombs me whenever I'm outside in the afternoon. It's =
horrible - I can't sit in the sun or bring in the laundry. It happened =
the last two years as well. We usually find it's body after a day or =
two. Is this normal?"
