Hallo all,

Just a few comments to the e-mail from Andy.

Isn't it amazing that for almost any scientific "truth", there are a dozen
other scientists who have equally valid and completely contradictory
versions of the same issue.

>>> And who is paying these scientist wages to come with their contradictory
versions? The pet food company? Or some cat lovers organization.

For those of you who are fond of birding on Long and Brier Islands, you may
have noticed that there are virtually no feral cats anymore. Compare that to
the situation 10 years ago.

>>>Such schemes are bound to be a success on islands. It is another story on
mainland.

That's due to a Trap, Neuter Release program..run entirely by volunteers who
saw a problem and did something about it. In the last two years, there have
been no kittens born at the few remaining colonies.

>>>And the few cats that are left will still be killing birds and small
mammals. I have a neighbor that has a well feed cat. Every day/night when
he lets it out, it brings home a "trophy" in the form of a dead small rodent
or bird.

Due to the efforts of volunteers, the feral cats have been humanely cared
for, and the birds can expend their energies fighting for survival against
the real threat: Human's destroying their habitat.

>>> "expend their energies" Do you know what you are talking about Andy? One
thing you have to remember is that the house cat/feral cat does not belong
in your fauna. It is an alien, brought in by man from its natural home land
of Egypt/North Africa. We have been shown time and time again, with several
different species, that such imports cause havoc on the local fauna. Cats
are no different.

Regards,

Eddie Chapman, Voss, Norway.
