Subject: [NatureNS] Bird Identification If Possible
Hello all,
At this time of year when there are many young birds, obviously, =
not in adult plumage, I'm sure I am not the only one sometimes wondering =
what types of song birds these are, that are appearing..
For the last couple of days, there have been a small group of =
sparrow-type birds, a little larger than the song sparrows (but hanging =
around with), spending time on the ground of my newly seeded backyard.=20
They remind me very much of Fox Sparrows, with their deep =
chestnut coloured feathers on some of the body feathers and on their =
longish tail feathers too. But, the streaks on their chest and on the =
streaks on their heads are a fairly deep grey colour.
I've been pouring over my Sibley's but cannot find any type of =
sparrow (mainly because that's the types of birds that mostly frequent =
my backyard these days) that look like these particular birds.
Any ideas from anyone with this (not so good) description?
Thank you,
Gayle MacLean
