My guess is that LBB means 'little brown bird' (you could also say LBJ for
'little brown job') and GISS is 'general impression of size and shape' (from
the German word gestalt).

Subject: [NatureNS] Bird acronyms

I received this mail from my grandson who is employed as a computer
'techie'.

Hi Gramps,

I was reading a programming book today and it had a couple of bird
watching acronyms in it.
They are:
LBB and GISS

I can tell him that LBB is lesser black-backed but the GISS has me stumped.
Anyone?
