What a gorgeous day it is here!!!
It has been an interesting week here in White Point. Things had gotten
fairly quiet traffic wise, ( various songs were wafting through the skies,
so beautiful!!) We had the usuals; the chickadees, juncos, starlings, Blue
Jays and Sparrows: Song and White throats. Numerous Mourning doves, Downy
and Hairy Woodpeckers who seem to have been coming in pairs.
After the snow the more of the above especially juncos and Blue Jays;
Northern Flickers, I believe there are two gorgeous birds at least, came
back to the seedcake and feeder as did the American tree sparrow as well as
a couple nuthatches. One was for sure a red breasted and I think the other
was white but it was flitting about so quickly while I was trying to finish
something I was doing I can't say for sure. There are two American tree
sparrows today. The robin is back. One spent all last winter with us and we
fed it extremely ripe apples donated by Hebbs in Hebbville.
The other day we saw three in the hawthorn trees out front. One stayed and
stayed so we hauled frozen apples from the deep freeze, stepped out the
door and it went right to the spot where we fed it last year and waited for
the apples. It is still here. Makes me ponder the feeding of birds and their
expectations.....I know some think this is crazy but .........our realtor is
pushing the property as a bird haven which I very much appreciate. Still no
idea of where or when we will be moving, of course. For health reasons we
need to get closer to town. Interest in the property has been expressed and
someone is coming back for another viewing bringing another member of his
family with him. Scary actually.
Hope people are getting out and about today. Our snowdrops were up, just
barely but showing buds with white, and that snow will work as a greenhouse
and bring them along.
