Hello all=20
=20
Inspired by the recent reports from Ken and Jim=2C I dragged myself out=
to the local hot spot for swifts=2C the Middleton Regional High School thi=
s evening (May 6). There were (was?) a good number circling when I arrived=
about 20:35=3B the first one entered the chimney at 20:45=2C but the rest=
remained actively feeding for another 7 minutes until darkness was falling=
- probably because it had been raining until about an hour earlier. All t=
he rest entered between 20:53 and 20:55=2C which made them difficult to cou=
nt=2C but I came up with a number of 115=2C counting by fives. =20

Today (6th) also produced my first of year for our other apodiform spe=
cies - a male Ruby-throated Hummingbird appeared at my feeder in Tremont ju=
st after the rain=2C and my neighbour Sheila Hulford had her first today as=
well=2C a female at her feeder. These had been in the central part of the=
Valley earlier=3B Frances Lourie had one at Middleton on May 4.
Cheers=2C
