Jean-Fran=E7ois and I have been working down in southern Nova Scotia =
again for
the past week and have come up with a few rarities and surprises.=20
=20
While atlassing in Moody=92s Corner, Digby county, (20KP69) =
Jean-Fran=E7ois
spotted a Whip-poor-will flying by. He had never seen one before but was
sure of the ID because of its unique shape.
=20
Jean-Fran=E7ois got lucky again while atlassing in Carleton (20KP67). He =
found
two black-billed cuckoos singing and one, possibly two, yellow-billed =
all in
the same location. I later came to the spot and heard the two BBCU=92s =
and one
YBCU. A couple of hours later I heard a black-billed singing very close =
to
the road. Jean-Fran=E7ois happened to come by with the truck to pick me =
up so
we used playback to get him out and got some great looks. Great to have =
four
cuckoos in one day let alone one square!
=20
Besides those birds, we had two Canada Warblers, three Olive-sided
Flycatchers, two Spruce Grouse Families, and a Pied-billed Grebe nest. =
I=92ll
be listening for pine warblers in this last week, but so far I have had =
no
luck in NS.
=20
Cheers,
=20
Lucas
