On August 14 (Saturday), there will be a canoe tour of the suburban =
Pine Island Ponds Loop between Herring Cove and Spryfield (HRM). The =
event is co-sponsored by Canoe Kayak Nova Scotia and the McIntosh Run =
Watershed Association. There is no rain date, and in case of inclement =
weather the event will be cancelled.

We shall meet at 1:00 PM in Herring Cove at the junction of John =
Brackett Drive (Highway 253) and Powers Drive, next to Powers Pond. We =
expect to stop at the blueberry (and huckleberry) grounds of the =
recently burned area off East Pine Island Pond, and probably swim off =
the well-known "swimming rock."

There are short portages between the six ponds on the route, which =
therefore isn't suitable for sea kayaks. A limited number of loaner =
canoes is available. The route is only about 5 km in length, but =
includes a variety of shorelines and habitats, with opportunities to =
explore nearby informal trails. Positive RSVPs only please, at =
soudekd@ns.sympatico.ca or
at 422-1045 (home)
