Subject: [NatureNS] "Speckled Plover"

Kwe Msit Wen
(Greetings All)

I was given an Mi'kmaq name (Jiju'jij) for a "Speckled Plover". I have
tried to match this English name to the plovers or sandpipers but have come
up empty handed. Can anyone help me out? What bird used to be called the
"Speckled Plover?" The Mi'kmaq name refers to the probing motion that
characterizes Plover or Sandpiper feeding. Very interesting how the names
for the plovers/sandpipers all refer to the probing motion but each is
slightly different pronunciation/spelling to reflect the various species.

Any help is appreciated.
