Tom, Terri and Bruce et al

Wela'lin (Thanks)

That kind of makes sense as the Mi'kmaq name is Kaqa'wejij (literal translated
as little crow) but refers to a pigeon duck (the names are from a Micmac Grammer
book printed in Halifax in 1875). I was thinking to myself what kind of a duck
looks like a crow, thinking of ducks not alcids. Also Cathy Murrant lent me a
book on Old-folk names of birds and once you pointed me to the Black Guillemont,
it calls it sea pigeon, wild pigeon, Greenland Dove, Dovekey. This detective
research work into the old names of birds and trying to link them to Mi'kmaq
names is really interesting.
