Subject: Black-backed Woodpecker and Killdeer

This morning's stroll on the Wetland's Trail, Uniacke Estate Museum Park, was uneventful save for a single male Black-backed Woodpecker high up on a dead tree. It had no interest in posing for me. I'm running into these woodpeckers between Douglas and Clarke Lakes this fall.

Yesterday morning at Crystal Crescent Beach Provincial Park, at the second beach, I spotted a Killdeer. This fine adult was in excellent shape suggesting that it hasn't encountered any challenging conditions yet. Perhaps this bird has been driven east by the awful weather of central Canada.
