Hans Tooms' photo of the Sandhill Crane at Falmouth suggests from its  
rather slight bill that it might be of the arctic-nesting subspecies  
canadensis. These can be also be distinguished from the more southern  
subspecies tabida from the lack of pale patch on their inner  
primaries. Flight photos would help. We've had the latter subspecies  
here before during wintry weather.
