The Winter of the Fisher by Cameron Langford

The Ojibway
The mood that had pressed so heavily on him all the afternoon was gone,
for he had heard at last the message that for years the silent
trees had whispered to him: age is of the body.
Youth lies in the mind. And a man's a fool to think on time,
when timelessness encloses him on every side.

The fisher

Outside, the fisher stretched himself sensuously and
trotted toward the trees. Before he was beneath their shelter,
his trot quickened to a graceful lope,
for somewhere in the future just ahead,
the porcupines were waiting. And he was still very hungry.
