5 March 2011

Though winter, either by the weather or the calender, is not yet
over, the three-month winter birding season ended with February's
passing. Our total was exactly average, at 195 species, and the DOWL
(Dead Of Winter List) was a bit below average, even with the recent
additions of Red-throated Loon, Greylag Goose, and Wilson's Snipe
(the latter was not reported to NatureNS, but Verna Higgins of Middle
Musquodoboit alerted me to a M. Valley sighting).

The web page is here:

Time now to think of spring, and with warming temperatures, singing
doves, Song Sparrows, and chickadees, and nesting crows, it is not hard.

Cheers,

Blake
