Hello all=2C
=20
While out scouting today=2C I saw a couple of species requiring an RBA. =
The Harlequin Ducks were no surprise -- 3 pairs at their usual spot near s=
hore about 70m west of the mouth of Neily Brook at Port George -- but are a=
lways a delight to watch when displaying.
=20
The Yellow-headed Blackbird was a surprise. It was a female=2C in with =
the flocks of 100s of starlings at the David Bent farm north of Middleton=
=2C along Hwy 362 just south of where it turns east away from the Gates Mou=
ntain Rd.. From the back it could be overlooked=2C but the yellow throat a=
nd upper breast show clearly from the front. There are also several overwi=
ntering Brown-headed Cowbirds there=2C and I saw one or two Red-winged Blac=
kbirds earlier in the winter that are likely still there - only small porti=
ons of the flocks can usually be seen at a time. It is a large farm with b=
uildings and feedlots that are private=2C some areas with restricted access=
because of health regulations=2C so the best bet is to find a safe spot al=
ong the road to stop and wait for the birds to get close enough. Finding t=
he right one could take a lot of patience and time=2C so=2C although we sha=
ll stop there briefly tomorrow=2C our chances of getting it are slim. It i=
s a good spot for getting the House Sparrow on its international day=2C tho=
ugh. (See www.worldsparrowday.org ).

Cheers=2C
