There was a male common merganser and a separate female seen, and assorted other ducks, including a few green-winged teals. Again I checked the new raven nest high in a solitary pine just west of the Gibson house, alias the Borden house, in Canning. Just across Main St. from the nest, a single raven in the deciduous tree called upon my appearance on foot, and later it was joined by its obvious mate, whereupon they touched beaks and may have mutually preened, before one of them flew right to the nest (which is difficult to see in the dense treetop). I saw my first presumed migrant arriving 6+ common grackles in Port Williams.
