Sorry about sending this with no proper title etc.

I hope a lot of you saw this in yesterday's Chronicle Herald. So =20
Eric Mills' sighting of an adult harp seal along our Atlantic Shore =20
might not be unusual this year. Jim in Wolfville

PORTLAND, Maine =97 Harp seals from Canada are showing up in U.S. =20
waters in greater numbers and farther south than usual, and =20
biologists want to know why.

Small numbers of juvenile harp seals are typically found each winter =20
stranded along the coast of the northeastern United States. But this =20
year, well over 100 adult harp seals =97 not juveniles =97 have been =20
spotted, said Mendy Garron, regional marine mammal stranding co-=20
ordinator for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration in =20
Gloucester, Mass.. The sightings are reported by 14 seal stranding =20
and rehabilitation organizations in New England and the Middle =20
Atlantic states.

"In some areas they=92re reporting three times the normal number of =20
sightings," Garron said. "This year, we=92ve had four sightings of =20
adult harp seals in North Carolina, which we=92ve never had before. We =20=

typically don=92t see them that far south."
