APRIL 1, 2011 - ALL FOOLS' DAY (see p. A2 of today's Chronicle Herald
for historical reference), better known as APRIL FOOLS' DAY. I like
the former term, especially to go with the pronouncements and attack-
ads from unnamed political leaders on the stumps!

Canning: 2 green-winged teals (m,f pr) in river but no geese seen at
all.

Canard Pond: 2 Canada geese (likely a new, young pair), 7 female or
immature common mergansers, and 6 Am. black ducks.

Canard St. bald eagle nest: presumed female sitting in nest
steadfastly, in weather that was changing and getting quite windy and
cold (the lot of incubating eagles, ravens, great horned owls, etc.,
at this time of year. Not long after this, the east wind (nor'easter
in progress) became very strong and cold and delivered a very wet
blizzard, leaving just a couple of centimetres of accumulation, then
freezing rain, and apparently icy roads, since two cars had an
accident on Hwy. 358 very close to the Canard River bridge.

Cheers from Jim in Wolfville.
