Of Astronomy & Physics: "Gone with the Wind: What Scarlett O'Hara Has Been Hiding about Galaxies" We are living in what many observers call a Golden Age of Astronomy. The state-of-the-art observational facilities around the world have been gathering an unprecedented amount of astronomical data over the past couple decades, which have literally transformed our understanding of the universe. In this presentation, I will introduce what we currently know based on these data about how galaxies form over the cosmic history and how that relates to what Scarlett O'Hara learned in a hard way decades ago, even before most of us came to existence.
