Dear All, Apr 24, 2011
Common Horsetail (Equisetum arvense) is shedding spores; very short
plants on a SE facing crushed rock ditch bank (Kentville) and nearby a dense
stand of Coltsfoot is flowering in a seepy ditch botton.

Several years ago I moved some Coltsfoot to a sandy patch of lawn with
weak grass but in spite of TLC it did not survive.

Also today I saw a Bumblebee flying overhead; large and first this year.

Yesterday, while making firewood from some Poplar damaged by wind (Dec
13, 10) in North Alton I noticed a number of flying insects, probably
attracted by sour sap but did not get a good look at any. [Some trees that
didn't fall in December have continued to slowly lean more and/or fall over
until recently.]

Yt, Dave Webster, Kentville
