Last night, my buddy Ivan and I did my owl route from Guysborough Intervale
through to New France, Ant. Co. This route includes one of my owl research
sites; however, since the clearcutting of a few years ago, I've not had any
nests there, so I decided that Ivan and I would go early, take down the nest
boxes (to be used elsewhere) and then do the route. Near Donnellys Lake (
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=Donnellys+Lake,+Nova+Scotia,+Canada&aq=0&sll=45.622973,-61.992101&sspn=0.031815,0.055189&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=Donnellys+Lake&ll=45.537317,-61.670551&spn=0.031863,0.055189&t=h&z=14),
we were taking down a nest box and a pair of Goshawks took off from across
the clearcut, and flew over it, not quite directly towards us, but nice
enough.

We ended up getting a pair of Barred Owls at a classic spot, one NSWO who
kept on tooting despite the artificial owl calls we broadcast, and had an
unknown hoot later on. A duck flew over us at the first stop, quacking all
the way.

Two porcupines rounded out the evening.
