Today I hiked the NS Power road & canal bank (road) from Route 12 to Little
River Lake, and back out. Species that I had not yet seen this year were
Least Flycatcher 1, Parula Warbler 3 or 4, Black-throated Blue Warbler 1,
Black-throated Green Warbler 1, Spotted Sandpiper 2, and Wilson's Snipe 1.
The B-t B Wa was singing very strongly & frequently, the B-t G Wa somewhat
less so but easily heard, the Parulas were singing rather little & quietly
at least until afternoon & I would have missed at least 2 of them if not
stopped for other species/ lunch.

As it happens, the Least F, Black-throated Blue W & Spotted Sandpiper are
all exact ties with my previous earliest ever records. The other species are
not records for me.

Other birds enjoyed were Gray Jay 1, Wood Duck 2M 1F, Blue-headed Vireo 3
and Sharp-shinned Hawk 1. The latter was rather vocal so may be on
territory.

FYI, there is a parking area for this walk precisely at the South Alton /
Forest Home boundary, per the Rte 12 highway signs.
