Wednesday, May 21st

I did some birding in Amherst Point and East Amherst.

Amherst Point/ Nappan Bird Sanctuary (in the back only)

1 Caspian Tern (big surprise!)
5 Black Tern
1 adult Sora
8 Blue Winged Teal
2 Green Winged Teal
2 Northern Pintail
2 Gadwall
4 Shovellers
4 American Wigeon
4 Mallard
20+ Bonparate Gulls
2 Swamp sparrows
15? Ring Necked Duck
10+ Pied Billed Grebe
6? Canada Geese
1 yellow rumped warbler
red winged blackbirds
grackles
crows
Bald Eagle on the nest
few tree swallows
few barn swallows
no sign of bobolinks, maybe too early?]

- oddly no black capped chickadee, yellow warbler or common yellow throat,
all of them I always saw while I scanned the marshy pond. I always see them
whenever I visit the pond.

- looked for the moorhen or coot. No luck.

- water levels in Nappan dykelands (on the right/ west side) were high.

East Amherst Marsh

-inaccessible due to the severe flooding on the road leading to two ponds so
I was not able to check out birds like swallows and terns. The dykelands
were quite flooded.

Cheers,
Liz
