May 23, 2011 - This evening Cheryl Rutledge counted 40 chimney swifts
diving into her old farmhouse's huge cement chimney, Upper Falmouth,
at 9 p.m. (This was the same night that we counted 83 swifts at RTNC
in Wolfville.)

MAY 23, 2011, Monday, Victoria Day (long weekend) -- Along the
Wolfville Rail Trail and at Home Hardware, English or Scots Elm?
shows huge, fully formed fruits/seeds. When these are shed, we will
see their abundance along various road edges.

MAY 23, 2011 (Monday, Victoria Day) - This evening Pat & I & Heather
MacDonald were guests for supper in a house along the east shore of
Lumsden Reservoir. Along the home's deck were three spaced feeders
full of sunflower seeds, and we were treated to long-lasting show of
lots of purple finches, 25++ of them, plus at least 3 evening
grosbeaks, a red squirrel, etc. Our hosts, Carolyn Campbell and Bill
O'Brien, think there are 30 or more evening grosbeaks.
