MAY 24, 2011 - Robie Tufts Nature Centre in Wolfville at dusk:
observations from 8:30 p.m. to ?? My wrist watch was all screwed up
tonight, so I didn't get the times for the swifts going into the
chimney. Sunset was at about 8:43 p.m. Sky was totally overcast,
brightly so for half the sky, other half pretty dark, visibility very
poor tonight. But the chittering of the swifts was loud and quite
audible, even for me. Temperature was 16 C., with a fairly strong
wind from the west?

A single swift dropped out of the loose flock and into the chimney
well before the rest, which then all entered pretty quickly over the
length of a minute or two. Harold Forsyth and I estimated 75 to 80
swifts, but sharp-eyed and experienced Ted Wolkowski was sure he
counted about 120. Thus we'll write down 100 total swifts as a
compromise or average.

I can only guess at the times of swifts' entries: from 8:45 (1 swift)
to about 9:00 p.m.??

Cheers from Jim in Wolfville.
