Yesterday, I observed an osprey flying low over the surface of a lake, then dip down a few times, dragging its talons and an inch or two of its lower body through the water, getting a bit higher and repeating this two more times. I have seen this a couple of times before, and am curious to know if this is a typical behaviour, and if so, what the purpose might be. - Burkhard
