Bill and Brenda Thexton were contacted by Dick Halliburton today about two Moorhens that have been in one of his farm ponds in Avonport. They were unable to find them when they went to the area over the noon hour. I attempted the same later without success but bumped into Mr Haliburton who told me the moorhens had been around for the past three weeks but he had not seen them in the last couple of days. The sightings were usually very early morning. He mentioned he was quite impressed by their red/yellow bills which sent him to check out the birds in his field guide as he knew they were different.
