   On Saturday, July 23, Canoe Kayak Nova Scotia and the Nova Scotia =
Nature Trust are organizing a leisurely paddle up and down a =
wildlife-rich stillwater section of Pleasant River, followed by an =
outing on nearby picturesque Shingle Lake. The event will include a =
short walk along the former Caledonia rail line to the Trust's Deep =
Brook property, which supports a population of the endangered Blanding's =
turtle.=20
  =20
   The event is open to all paddlers and there is no fee. Bring your own =
canoe or sea kayak, the usual safety gear, food, water, sunscreen, and a =
bathing suit. Pre-registration, by contacting Cristi Frittaion at =
cristi@nsnt.ca or at (902) 425-5263, is required.=20
   =20
   Both car and canoe camping are available in the area, and some of us =
are planning to continue exploration of the Pleasant River Barrens and =
the parallel rocky ridges of the Pleasant River Anticline north of =
Shingle Lake via Barren Meadow Brook on an informal basis the following =
day.
