Dear Canadian friends,

I'm a school teacher who happens to be a butterfly enthusiast, living in the county of Sussex, in the south east of England. During this year I have spent as much time as I can watching and photographing as many species of butterfly as is possible. There are many similar enthusiasts in Sussex and you can visit the Butterfly Conservation website to get an idea of the type of things that interest us:

http://www.sussex-butterflies.org.uk/sightings.html

The trips I have undertaken this year have given me a great deal of pleasure and now I'm considering visiting Nova Scotia with my family to stay with relatives there. This seems to be a perfect opportunity to get to know the Nova Scotian butterfly fauna a little better.

I have been to Nova Scotia more times than I can remember and when I was a teenager I spent many a blissful day watching local butterflies around the Amherst area. However, I didn't know much about Canadian butterflies or more specifically the butterflies of the Maritimes and I didn't know anybody who did. Consequently I only ever saw common species. I would truly like to get the opportunity to see some of the scarcer species and wondered if there were any individuals within your community who might be able to help me do this, if I were to visit the province during August 2012?

It would be great to communicate with anyone who would be interested in sharing their knowledge.

I wish you all well

Dan Danahar
