Today's Halifax Herald reports the passing of Fran Spalding, of Economy. Those of us who have been birding for a number of years will recall visiting Fran's home in Economy, looking for one of the many vagrants he reported from the area. His obituary describe the many highlights of his life before coming to Economy including working as a Russian Translator (!!) during the early part of the Cold War. He was 79. Angus
